rules
Palomino runs on common sense. These rules aren't here to trap you or catch you out. They exist so everyone can build a story without someone else ruining it. If you're ever unsure whether something is okay, ask yourself: would this feel fair if it happened to me? If the answer is no, don't do it. Staff would rather answer a quick question in Discord than issue a warning after the fact.
1. GENERAL CONDUCT
Palomino is a community-focused server. We're small on purpose, and we want it to stay tight-knit. That only works if people treat each other well.
Be respectful in and out of character. Disagreements happen; harassment doesn't.
No racism, sexism, homophobia, or other hate speech, in RP or out of it.
No real-world doxxing, threats, or targeted harassment of any player.
Age requirement and any account/registration rules follow whatever is posted in the Discord at time of joining.
Staff decisions are final in the moment. If you disagree, take it to a ticket after the situation is resolved, not in the moment.
2. ROLEPLAY STANDARDS
Palomino is a community-focused server. We're small on purpose, and we want it to stay tight-knit. That only works if people treat each other well.

No racism, sexism, homophobia, or other hate speech, in RP or out of it.

3. CHARACTERS & IDENTITY
Fail RP — Play your character like a real person would act in that situation. No random, senseless, or cartoonish behavior that breaks immersion for everyone around you.
Metagaming — Don't use information your character couldn't know. This includes info from Discord, stream snipers, or things you heard from another player's character in a scene you weren't part of.
Powergaming — Don't force outcomes on other players without giving them a fair chance to react (forcing a robbery, forcing cuffs, forcing your character's actions to just happen). Give people the ability to type or emote a response.
Value of Life — Your character should value their life like a real person would. If you're outgunned, outnumbered, or at a clear disadvantage, roleplay accordingly instead of fighting or fleeing in a way no real person would risk.
4. NEW LIFE RULE
If your character dies or is knocked fully unconscious, they forget the events immediately leading up to that outcome. No revenge-seeking based on memory you shouldn't have.
Return to roleplay through normal means after respawning. Don't run straight back into the same scene.
5. COMBAT & CRIME
Random death match (attacking without any roleplay reason or lead-up) is not allowed.
Combat logging (disconnecting to avoid an ongoing RP situation, arrest, or fight) is not allowed.
Give people a chance to comply before escalating to force. Real criminals don't shoot first for no reason, and neither should you.
Hostage and robbery scenarios need to leave room for the other side to actually participate, not just lose automatically.
6. VEHICLES & DRIVING
Drive like the vehicle and situation call for it. Reckless driving for no RP reason breaks immersion.
Vehicle deathmatching (ramming players with no RP justification) is treated the same as RDM.
Vehicle access is tied to your civilian tier. Don't ask staff to bypass this.
Report any vehicle that looks, sounds, or behaves incorrectly so it can get fixed.
7. EXPLOITS & CHEATING
No cheating, scripting, macros, or third-party software that gives you an advantage.
No exploiting bugs, glitches, or dupes. Report them instead. A reported bug earns goodwill; an exploited one earns a ban.
No modifying game files or resources to alter how the server behaves for you.
Don't share exploits publicly, even "just to warn people." Report them privately to staff.
8. VOICE, TEXT & OOC
Use OOC (out-of-character) chat sparingly and never to influence an ongoing scene.
Keep proximity voice IC. If you need to say something OOC over voice, prefix it clearly ("OOC:") and keep it brief.
No music, soundboards, or ear-rape over voice comms.
Streaming is allowed. Streamers should be extra careful about metagaming risk from viewers relaying info.
9. DEPARTMENTS
Department applications go through #departments in Discord.
On-duty members represent their department at all times and are held to a higher roleplay standard.
New members of a department shouldn't take on responsibilities above their training (for example, a fresh deputy shouldn't be handling 911 calls).
Abuse of department tools or access (going on duty to skip queues, using department vehicles off-duty, etc.) is treated as a rules violation, not just a department issue.
10. CIVILIAN PROGRESSION
Everyone starts as Civ I and unlocks more as they put in time and stay clean. This isn't a grind, it's just how trust builds.
Civ I — on join
Civ II — 12 hours playtime, no warns/kicks/bans
Civ III — 1 week playtime
Civ IV — 1 month playtime
Follow Discord's own Terms of Service in addition to our rules.
Keep channels on-topic. Use the right channel for support, reports, or general chat.
No advertising other servers or communities.
Staff pings are for genuine, time-sensitive issues only.
Excessive cursing, offensive / foul language, and disrespectful behaviour is not tolerated.
11. DISCORD CONDUCT
12. REPORTING AN ISSUE
If something happens that breaks these rules, don't try to handle it yourself in RP. Screenshot or clip it if you can, and open a ticket in Discord with as much detail as possible: who was involved, what happened, and when. Staff can't act on vague reports, so specifics help everyone.
13. DISCIPLINE
Trust Score — Every player has a trust score that reflects their standing on the server. It doesn't decay over time, so it's a running record.
Commendation: +1
Warning: −2
Kick: −5
Strike: −10
Ban: −10
Score is capped at 105. Falling below 96 can hold up tier promotions.
Staff Authority
Moderator — warnings and kicks
Admin — up to 3-day bans
Senior Admin / Developer — up to 30-day bans
Head Admin — up to 1-year bans
Director — permanent bans
All discipline is logged and tracked centrally, so your record is consistent no matter which staff member handles it.
Rules are updated as the server grows. Check back if you're ever unsure. Questions go to a ticket in the Palomino RP Discord.
